WOW! Our adventure is drawing near. After a bumpy start, due to Jay's fibrillating heart, we are finally almost ready to embark on an 18 month mission to the Central America Area. Jay will do the dentistry; I will serve as a (don't laugh) dental specialist. Anyway, that's what the mission call said. This is despite the fact that I have no dental experience what-so-ever. Yikes! During our marriage, I've taught school from kindergarten to college, but managed to consistently stay out of Jay's dental practice. To have me as his dental assistant will help Jay develop abundant patience.
We will be stationed in Guatemala City and will be providing dental services to prospective missionaries from 7 different Central American countries. Also we will take care of children in orphanages in Guatemala City. We officially start our mission by attending one week of classes at the Mission Training Center in Provo, Utah. Sadly, these classes contain zero Spanish lessons. This is no big deal to Jay because he speaks Spanish fluently. My Spanish, on the other hand, is muy muy malo--very very bad. On February 6th, we will fly down to Guatemala City. Pray for us.
